about

The second single from the upcoming second full-length Van Dyke Brown album.

lyrics

The phantom is in the house
and I’m swimming in a pool with holes
There’s no rest in the darkness
It’s 100 degrees and there’s nowhere to go
And the young tree in the corner
that we planted on a winter’s day
It will die without water
It will crumble and fold, and wither away

And all of the days spent trying to contain it (it did no good)
Searching for ways that you could explain it (I wish you could)
As the days turn to weeks turn to years that slowly fly
Let’s never talk about July

Let’s flash back, Clark County
Sun boiling in our eyes
Three friends, a stranger
No wind in your hair, no limo in sight
We were young then, climbing towers
that stretched into a desert sky
If we went back, would we find them
Or are they hidden away, lost in the lights

And all of the days spent trying to flame it (it’s understood)
That you never asked me to explain it (I thought you would)
As the days turn to weeks turn to years that slowly fly
Let’s never talk about July

And all of the days spent trying to frame it (it did no good)
Searching for ways that I could explain it (I never could)
As the days turn to weeks turn to years that slowly fly
Let’s never talk about July
Let’s never talk about July
Let’s never talk about July

about

Van Dyke Brown Arlington, Texas

Scott Honea formed Van Dyke Brown in 2019 when he wrote, performed, recorded, and released his debut album "Holy Libel." It quickly found a home on Dallas radio (KXT/91.7), and Fort Worth Weekly called it "dreamy folk pop." Full band shows followed in late 2019 before the world shut down. In 2022, Honea finished the group's sophomore album, which will be released before the end of the year. ... more
